Crafting
marble legacy

Swamy Marmo stands for the legacy of Mr Swamy, and the quality of the marble we import from around the world. While the brand is new, the people behind it are not – and that decades’ of experience is reflected in our products. Our tagline ‘Leading by Legacy’, is to honour the marble legend and to remind us that we grow under his nurturing.

Built on a tight-knit, strong foundation, the ethos of Swamy Marmo is to bring forth the best quality marble to India, at a competitive price, with the trust that we will always maintain transparency and honesty with our customers.

With a range of almost 150 products, we stand behind each slab, knowing it is sourced from the best quarries, and will enrich every house, building, office it adorns. With Swamy Marmo we want to continue our journey of trust and bring forth marble in the best colours, finishes and textures for our clients. It has been sourced keeping in mind the demands of the market, and an assurance in the quality of the stone.

Where legacy meets
marble’s natural wonder

Be it our exotic range of natural marble in the colours of a volcano to the deepest blues of the ocean, the swirling greens of a forest to the purple hues of sunset or the more classic range of stunning neutral shades in beige, white and grey – this is a collection built from experience. Our marble is sourced from mountains, and from quarries deep inside the Earth, from across the world, ranging from Italy to Iran. Our factory outlet in Silvassa houses our current collection, and it is updated frequently.

Over four decades, we have worked with India’s leading architects, businesses and builders, as well as quarries and companies globally. At Swamy Marmo, we are continuing our relationships and building new ones.

Build from legacy. Build with Swamy Marmo.

The visionaries
behind swamy marmo

K M Swamy

“I believe in quality, I believe in commitment, and I believe in never, ever becoming arrogant.” – Mr K M Swamy

Having spent over four decades in the marble industry, K M Swamy is synonymous with marble – not just in India, but globally.

Born in a hamlet near Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, he moved to Mumbai for work, with limited belongings but bigger dreams. Armed with a Bachelor’s degree in science, he began his marble journey with Simplex Enterprises in 1982. As part of the procurement team, he travelled to Italy – his first airplane journey – to source Italian marble for Simplex, making him one of the first people in India to do so.

Over time, he built his reputation as the person who could predict while sourcing the block how the slabs will eventually look in terms of colour, veins or grain pattern. He spent over two decades in and out of Italy, and also visited quarries in Portugal and Brazil.

In 1992, Swamy formed a partnership with Mr Mafatlal Shah which gave birth to Classic Marble Company in 1994. What started with a small 200 sq. ft. container grew to become one of the biggest importers of natural marble in India, employing over 1200 people. Over time, he visited the quarries around the world, becoming a connoisseur of marble.

Swamy also created an engineered version of the natural stone in India, called KalingaStone – India’s premier engineered marble and quartz surfaces – in 2007. KalingaStone today is exported to 66 countries across the globe.

After a three decade-long association with the Shahs, Swamy decided to step away from Classic Marble Company to start his own marble company – Swamy Marmo – in partnership with his son, Ramkrishna Swamy. In this time, Swamy built a reputation as a trustworthy businessman with integrity who is always frank with clients. This ethos continues to be a part of Swamy Marmo.

K M Swamy hasn’t forgotten his roots and strives to give back to society. He has been an integral part of various developmental activities in his hometown, including providing education to underprivileged children as well as providing employment opportunities, becoming a mentor and torchbearer for them all.

In four decades, he’s worked on many reputed projects including the MTR station in Hong Kong and the Shenton Way Station in Singapore. But his journey is still continuing, with many roads to be paved with Swamy Marmo. His hard work and perseverance continue to be the guiding light for the company.

Ramkrishna Swamy

“I want to be more than a marble vendor for my clients… I want to be a solution provider, a person who they place their trust in.” – Mr Ramkrishna Swamy

With a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from University of Mumbai, and a Master’s in International Business from University of Westminster, London, Ramkrishna Swamy joined the marble industry 17 years ago. Under the mentorship of his father, K M Swamy, and Mr Subodh Shah and Mr Amit Shah at Classic Marble Company, he learnt the ropes from the ground up.

Swamy started his journey in the marble industry with the most basic yet most important job – measuring and watering the marble slabs to show it to the clients. He built a relationship with all his employees, and worked amongst them, slowly expanding his knowledge.

This ethic of being rooted was something Swamy learnt from his father. He also carried it with him in his studies in London, where he worked his way through college, earning his keep by working at many small restaurants and businesses.

At Classic Marble Company, he started with working in the Silvassa factory, and then managed the outlet in Worli, Mumbai. With Mr Amit Shah, he learnt the ropes of sales and soon expanded the reach of the business in South India, working with many celebrities and influencers to supply the marble for their houses.

Stepping away from CMC to start Swamy Marmo with his father, K M Swamy, Ramkrishna Swamy continues his ethic of being in touch with all his employees, and maintaining utmost honesty in his dealings with his clients, employees and suppliers. His vision is to make Swamy Marmo recognised globally as a quality marble company from India.

The details
that matter

1. What is the story behind the name ‘Swamy Marmo’?

RKS: Swamy Marmo is actually a brand under the larger vision – House of Swamy. We have built this brand to honour the legacy of the marble legend, Mr K M Swamy – and that is also why our tagline is ‘Leading by Legacy’. As a company, we want to carry with us the goodwill and trust my father has earned in the industry, and really, who better to name the company after than him?

2. What is the vision for Swamy Marmo?

  1. KMS: If not number 1, then for Swamy Marmo to be in the top 3 marble companies of India! We want to implement new technologies and build many, many factories.

RKS: With House of Swamy, there are many plans and expansions on the horizon, with a lot of research underway to explore exciting new markets. However, we want to take it one step at a time, and start with the best – natural imported marble from some of the best quarries around the world, and that’s the vision for Swamy Marmo. I, personally, want it to be recognised worldwide as a quality marble company from India.

3. What is your personal work ethic?

KMS: Put your head down, and work hard. I come from a small village in Tamil Nadu, we don’t know politics. I always want to maintain honesty with people – as a matter of fact, I believe in giving to people rather than taking from them. If you have Rs 100 in your hand, spend Rs 90, not Rs 200. And never, ever, become arrogant.
RKS: Always be honest with your clients and your suppliers. No relationship is complete without trust.

4. What would you want your clients to know about you?

RKS: The most important thing: that the company has changed, but the Swamys still work the same way, on relationships nurtured with trust and hard work. There is no change in our quality, ethics and commitment to the product and our clients. We continue to get the best for them.

5. Can you take us through the current collection?

  1. KMS: In our factory outlet in Silvassa, we have a premium, boutique collection of almost 150 products ranging from exotic colours, textures and finishes to the more classical beiges, whites and greys – and I can assure you that we stand behind each one. The collection has been carefully curated keeping in mind the market trends, our customer requirements, and of course the best quality. We know what is best based on our experience.
RKS: And of course, if there are any specific requirements from our clients, nothing is impossible!

6. Where do you import from currently?

KMS: Wherever there is a quarry in the world, I have visited it. I remember visiting quarries in -14 degrees Celsius, quarries that are only accessible by horseback to source white marble. I have spent decades building relationships with quarries, and we have built a collection that reflects that.
At Swamy Marmo, we import from over 20 countries including Italy, Greece, Spain, Brazil, Namibia, Portugal, Iran, USA, China and Turkey.
